Water Rocketry Workshop

📅January 10, 2026 🕒All Day 📍SAC Building and Football Ground

What Happened

On January 10, 2026, Singularity, the Astronomy Club of IISER Kolkata organized one of its flagship science events, the Water Rocketry Workshop. Attended by well over 50 enthusiastic students from all cohorts, the event saw a whole lot of problem solving and brainstorming among participants as they assembled and experimented with the raw materials provided to them to make rockets out of plastic water bottles, using air pressurized by compressed water as the driving force behind the hard launching of their bona fide rockets to the skies.
At the end of a long construction phase during which teams designed their own rockets using the provided raw materials, their aqua-propelled creations were put to the test: a handmade PVC-pipe based rocket launcher that used air pressure as the principal propellant would be provided, with which each team would prepare and launch their rockets across the football field in several rounds evaluating maximum distance, maximum height and accuracy of trajectory. The competition was intense, and the final round was nothing short of a hairline chase.
It was an extremely gratifying and enlightening experience, where attendees watched the products of their making extoll the essence of ingenuity and soar to the skies with the power of water and air.
