What Happened

Our Astro Club enjoyed a really interesting talk by our super-senior, Chitradeep Saha about why the Sun acts like a giant magnet. He explained, in an easy-to-understand way, how the Sun's movements and hot, electrically charged gases create its magnetic field. We learned about things like sunspots and solar flares, and how they're all related to the Sun's magnetism. It was a great chance to learn about the powerful forces that make our star so active.

Chitradeep Saha, a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Solar Activity Reconstructions in the Department of Meteorology, Universiy of Reading and a member of the Space and Atmospheric Electricity Group (SPATE). He submitted his PhD thesis from CESSI, IISER Kolkata. where he worked with Prof. Dibyendu Nandi. His primary research interest is to explore long-term solar magnetic activity with the aid of magnetohydrodynamic simulations and statistical data analysis techniques.
