We held a talk on the dynamics of supermassive black holes and their role in galaxies. The session explored accretion, mergers, and modern observational techniques.

What Happened

Singularity hosted a lecture by Navonil Saha, a BS-MS alumnus and current PhD candidate at the University of Heidelberg, focusing on the dynamics of supermassive black holes. The lecture addressed the complex astrophysical processes governing the behavior and evolution of these massive objects located at galactic centers. Mr. Saha discussed the mechanisms driving black hole accretion, mergers, and feedback, as well as their influence on the surrounding galactic environment. He presented an overview of observational techniques used to study supermassive black hole dynamics, including gravitational wave astronomy and high-resolution imaging. The lecture provided a comprehensive analysis of current research and theoretical models concerning supermassive black hole dynamics, contributing to the club's understanding of this significant area of astrophysical study.

Navonil Saha, currently working as an IMPRS PhD fellow at the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut (ARI), Universität Heidelberg. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's (BS-MS) Dual degree with a major in Physics from IISER, Kolkata. His research area is Astrophysics and Cosmology. He is mainly interested in Stellar Dynamics, N-body simulation, cosmological simulation, super massive black holes, large scale structure and gravitational waves.
